Exploring Habitats at The Rising Sun Country Park
Year 2 recently enjoyed an exciting trip to The Rising Sun Country Park as part of their science topic on habitats. The day was packed with hands-on activities that brought their classroom learning to life in the great outdoors.
The children began with pond dipping, where they discovered a fascinating range of pond life—from wriggling water beetles to slippery tadpoles! They carefully observed and recorded their findings, learning more about the tiny creatures that live beneath the surface.
Next, they tapped into their creative side with some environmental art, using natural materials found in the park to create beautiful, eco-friendly masterpieces.
The adventure continued with a mini beast hunt. Armed with magnifying glasses and bug pots, the children explored woodland areas and grassy meadows, searching for insects and learning about their microhabitats.
Finally, they put their science skills to the test by taking part in an animal classification activity, sorting the creatures they found into different groups based on their characteristics.
The trip was a huge success, and the children had a fantastic time. Not only did they have fun exploring nature, but they also deepened their understanding of the world around them. A big thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special!
