Year 5 enjoyed their trip to Cullercoats to carry out their geography fieldwork. We wanted to deepen our understanding of the human and physical features of our local coastline.

We also conducted a survey of local businesses, noting the different types of business and tallying the amount of traffic that each business had during the course of the morning.
We also looked for any evidence of hydraulic coastal erosion that has taken place at the beach, we used iPads to photograph the physical features of the landscape which suggested this and also sketched out any methods of sea defence that had been used to try and slow the effect of coastal erosion.
We designed questionnaires to help us survey the public to get a picture of the types of people who typically access our coast and their reasons for doing so. So many members of the public commented on our lovely manners and knowledge which was lovely to hear.
And of course, a trip to the coast wouldn't be complete without a a picnic on the beach and a quick paddle!
